A tour amidst useful tips and wonderful descriptions of the sites. Enjoy the read<\/em>..<\/h5>\n<p>We\u2019ve been waiting for this holiday trip for a long time.<\/p>\n<p>After the first images aired during a TV documentary me and my husband had no more doubts, our next summer trip would be in this region of Southern Italy, authentic and for most parts still unexplored by mass tourism: Puglia.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"alignleft wp-image-1424 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/o1.jpg\" alt=\"o1\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1252\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/o1.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/o1-300x196.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/o1-1024x668.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We chose a place which is relaxing but also strategic for the distances to cover as a base from which to explore the region.<\/p>\n<p>These are the phases of our trip: Alberobello, Locorotondo, Martina Franca, Cisternino, Matera, Castellana Grotte, Monopoli, Polignano a Mare, La valle degli ulivi secolari (the Valley of the ancient olives).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/mappa.jpg\" data-rel=\"prettyPhoto[1441]\"><img class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1327\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/mappa.jpg\" alt=\"mappa\" width=\"870\" height=\"506\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/mappa.jpg 870w, https:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/mappa-300x174.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 870px) 100vw, 870px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>1st Day, Arrival at Bari.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>And so, here we are, have\u00a0\u00a0landed at the airport of Bari in a still bright\u00a0afternoon of early June and headed with the whole family (and with a rented car) towards our b&amp;b \u201cTrulli del Bosco&#8221;, booked in advance this winter.<\/p>\n<p>It takes about an hour by car from the airport and the road is manageable and adequately indicated. Once in Alberobello, we follow the GPS indications and immerse ourselves in the Apulian countryside\u2026<\/p>\n<p>The scenery is idyllic: slopes dotted with olives, old \u201cmasserie\u201d (sort of farms) and pockets of recently-ploughed red earth.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/paesaggio_1.jpg\" data-rel=\"prettyPhoto[1441]\"><img class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1401\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/paesaggio_1.jpg\" alt=\"paesaggio_1\" width=\"3648\" height=\"2432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/paesaggio_1.jpg 3648w, https:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/paesaggio_1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/paesaggio_1-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 3648px) 100vw, 3648px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The road to arrive at our trullo (the house of rocks, typical Apulian) is surrounded by two rows of stone walls and a forest of oak trees which extends along the way.<\/p>\n<p>We arrive and incredibly feel like we\u2019re at home.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe it was the warm reception from Andrea\u2019s family (owners of the trulli), or the innate affection of Francesca, the dog, or the delicious dinner, a base of wild herbs and homemade pasta served at dawn: but it was one of the best preludes of our trip to Puglia!<br \/>\nArriviamo e ci sentiamo incredibilmente come a casa.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/trullo_1.jpg\" data-rel=\"prettyPhoto[1441]\"><img class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1407\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/trullo_1.jpg\" alt=\"trullo_1\" width=\"2736\" height=\"1824\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/trullo_1.jpg 2736w, https:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/trullo_1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/trullo_1-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2736px) 100vw, 2736px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>2<sup>nd<\/sup>\u00a0Day<\/strong> \u2013 Alberobello.<\/h2>\n<p>For those who come from the city, it\u2019s not easy to adapt to such tranquility. It\u2019s been months that due to work I don\u2019t wake up at these hours anymore\u2026even the kids are asleep.<\/p>\n<p>The Italian goodmorning\/buongiorno is immediately recognizable by the good cup of espresso coffee from the coffee machine, a cup of fresh fruits and the homemade pie (crostata) made by Andrea\u2019s Granma! Yummy<\/p>\n<p>The air is saturated with oxygen and the heat is mild. We decide to spend the first night in the compound. And so, while the kids have their first dive in the pool with Daddy, I lay on the deckchair while reading a good book.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/piscina_1.jpg\" data-rel=\"prettyPhoto[1441]\"><img class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1329\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/piscina_1.jpg\" alt=\"piscina_1\" width=\"3648\" height=\"2432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/piscina_1.jpg 3648w, https:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/piscina_1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/piscina_1-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 3648px) 100vw, 3648px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the afternoon, we explore the zone and then head to Alberobello: famous for its trulli, Unesco World Heritage site.<br \/>\nOnce arrived in the city center, we park the car (2\u20ac h) and explore the countryside on foot while holding\/enjoying our first ice cream.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/alberobello_1.jpg\" data-rel=\"prettyPhoto[1441]\"><img class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1330\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/alberobello_1.jpg\" alt=\"alberobello_1\" width=\"800\" height=\"536\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The architecture of the trulli are suggestive. You find yourself immersed in an enchanted and exotic context which you can\u2019t really point out clearly. The trulli are monuments which bring the earth and sky closer, sculpted from rocks and built with limestone slabs stacked to dry: a patient and superfine technique of the trulli maestros.<\/p>\n<p>A real masterpiece of archaic culture that has quietly survived until our era.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/alberobello-aia.jpg\" data-rel=\"prettyPhoto[1441]\"><img class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1331\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/alberobello-aia.jpg\" alt=\"alberobello aia\" width=\"935\" height=\"624\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/alberobello-aia.jpg 935w, https:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/alberobello-aia-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 935px) 100vw, 935px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Alberobello\u2019s most famous zone: \u201cZona Monti\u201d, it is gracious but we recommend a walk in the more quiet and less visited \u201cAia Piccola\u201d neighborhood. At the end of the tour, enjoy the show from the \u201cZona Panoramica \/ Panoramic Area\u201d at sunset.<\/p>\n<p>Only then will you understand why Alberobello is a destination that one should never miss in their lives.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/alberobello_aia_1.jpg\" data-rel=\"prettyPhoto[1441]\"><img class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1333\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/alberobello_aia_1.jpg\" alt=\"alberobello_aia_1\" width=\"5472\" height=\"3648\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/alberobello_aia_1.jpg 5472w, https:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/alberobello_aia_1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/alberobello_aia_1-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 5472px) 100vw, 5472px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At nightfall, we begin to get hungry and decide to go to a restaurant recommended by many in Alberobello:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ristorantelanicchia.it\/it\/home\/\" target=\"_blank\">La Nicchia\/The Niche<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The experience of eating in a trullo-based restaurant is fabulous.<\/p>\n<p>Inside, the tables are cutely crouched between the \u201cniches\u201d and the atmosphere is intimate and relaxing. We then decide to order one of their best meals\/plates, recommended by the courteous owner: tortino di fave e cicorie (fava beans and chicory cupcakes) and mixed grilled meats. We couldn\u2019t have asked for more! They are the three white pearls of Valle d\u2019Itria: Locorotondo, Martina Franca and Cisternino.<\/p>\n<p>So, we head towards Locorotondo which is just 10km from here. The Baroque style reigns here! The young and friendly owner, nonetheless chef of the restaurant proposes a really inviting meal. The portions are of such unique aesthetic class, real works of art and their taste is nonetheless, here the traditional cuisine is made sublimely. surround this enchantment.<\/p>\n<p>Cisternino is famous also for its many butcheries which transform into real and proper open-space restaurants, with candlelit tables dotted along the alleyway and the fresh meat directly chosen from the counter (including rabbit and horse meat!).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trullidelbosco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/cisternino_8.jpg\" So, we stop in one of the many characteristic bars along the panoramic side of the town for an aperitif.
